The Music Company
The Music Company was founded by CMF Director Dr. Barrett to give emerging artists meaningful access to studios, mentorship, production, and real-world creative experience. Today, that experience strengthens CMF Music’s ability to offer professional recording opportunities to people in recovery.
Saint Luna guitarist Charlie Black first worked with Dr. Barrett as an intern. His journey from internship experience to becoming a member of a working San Diego band represents exactly what CMF believes opportunity can do: reveal talent, build confidence, create relationships, and open a door that changes someone’s direction.

Dr. Barrett is an acclaimed music producer with extensive experience developing artists, producing records, building recording studios, and creating professional environments where musicians can do their best work. He spent 10 years living and working in Hollywood, including experience in high-end recording studios at the center of the entertainment industry.
Under Dr. Barrett’s directorship, The Music Company also hosted three seasons of The Voice of San Diego, creating a public platform where emerging local performers could develop their talent, gain experience, and be heard.
Across his career, Dr. Barrett has worked with notable artists, executives, labels, and music organizations including Megadeth, Kottonmouth Kings, Capitol Records, Sanctuary Records, Kevin Zinger, Suburban Noize Records, and many others. Zinger’s music-management work includes Sublime, connecting Dr. Barrett’s experience to a broad network across rock, hip-hop, alternative, and independent music.
Dr. Barrett will personally guide and produce CMF Music productions. Participants will benefit not only from studio access, but from an experienced producer who understands artist development—from discovering a voice and shaping a song to completing a professional recording.

How it works
Through its partnership with The Music Company, CMF Music provides free access to professional recording environments, creative guidance, and collaborative support. Participants can develop an original song, record vocals or instruments, learn how a studio works, and leave with something tangible that reflects their voice.

No professional background is required. The studio is meant to be encouraging, patient, and creatively serious.
